Description
Cinnamon basil grows great in pots (at least 1 gallon) or directly in garden soil. Gets nice and bushy if roots have space. Once established can grow on its own with little or even no care in warm climates. (Pots must not completely dry out).
Beneficial when planted next to nightshades such as tomatoes and peppers, as it helps deter bad bugs like white flies, while attracting essential pollinators like the bees.
Cinnamon basil is sometimes referred to and confused with Vietnamese basil and Thai basil, as it looks similar. The latter two have wider leaves and bushier flowers. Vietnamese and Thai basils are the O. basilicum var. thyrsiflora, while Cinnamon basil is Ocimum basilicum “cinnamon.”
Directions
Store at room temperature in a dry, shady place. Plant 1/4” deep in a warm spot. Use preferably organic potting soil or well-draining garden soil. Part-sun to full sun. Protect from cold and wind. Keep warm and moist until germination. Germination may take up to 1-2 weeks, depending on growing conditions. Grown as a perennial in warm climates. Clip off flower tops to promote bushiness.
