About Lion’s Ear (Klip Dagga)

Lion’s Ear gets its name from the fact that its flowers resemble lion’s ears. It’s often confused with Lion’s Tail plant (Leonotis leonurus) aka “Wild Dagga”, which is related and similar, but not the same. Both varieties originate from tropical Africa and southern India, where their traditional medicinal uses have been culturally established.

Lion’s Ear grows faster than Lion’s Tail (Wild Dagga) and its leaves are heart shaped and not skinny. Traditionally, both varieties of Leonotis have been used as a relaxing tea and even as a substitute for tobacco and other herbs.
